Assignment 5 October 27, 2009

Why is it important for ordinary people to help in the fight against crime?

As it is mentioned in the former question. Fighting against crime is a duty that involves all the ordinary citizens in a given community. Crime in a community is a real and prevalent problem in today´s society so we have to learn how to fight against this, so to do this, we have to keep an eye out for anything unusual and suspicious happening in our neighborhood and let the police know about this weird events so they will keep watch on our neighborhood. At the same time we need to organize in our community a suerveillance team formed by neighbors around the area. If you are parents you need to make sure you always know where your children are, who they are with, and what they are doing in order to protect them from any trouble. At home you can get burglar alarms, cctv devices, taking care to secure your home all day long. When women have to walk home alone at nights they can buy a personal alarm to carry with them if they don´t drive or if they can´t get a taxi, but the most impoortant thing is to watch their surroundings when walking along the street. Please don´t use your cell phone, credit cards or take your money out of your purse because shoplifters are wherever you go, don´t appeal their attention using them in public places.

2 Writing Task-Mid Term Exam

Number 6 "You recently visited a place which you had not been to for a long time"

Dear Claudia,

I am so sorry because I haven`t writen to you for a long time. Please accept my apologies for that I didn´t mean to hurt your feelings having such a behaviour but my life here in Chile has changed a lot since our father´s death. Hope the kids are all right living in Paris at the moment.

Claudia This letter is to let you know what a beautiful lanscape there is in Talagante, near our farm that is in Isla de Maipo. Do you remember when we were little girls we used to pick up all kinds of fruits and vegetables just for fun. Guess what!!! the horses we had there are not only two now, It is full of riding horses who were free in that green and flowery land.
The house we had there It has been rebuilt again, and you can´t imagine what peculiar and picturesque is looking at that medium size house. The most amazing of all is that around the house there are thousands of different kinds of bushes and flowers.
You should come to visit this memorable place once again since our mother have put it on sale. You know that I don´t agree with that decision but we don´t have any other choice to cope with the expenses to maintain the farm.
Claudia I have to leave you now, send hugs and kisses for my nephews, see you and lots of love,
Best wishes,
Katie (your beloved sister)

Mid-Term Writing Task "Formal Letter" Oct. 8, 2009

Dear Madam,
It was such a relief when I received your letter, saying that I have won two weeks at Camp California in U.S.A. I have never been to that beautiful place at Camp California. It is great fun to have the opportunity to stay in there and the most remarkable of all It is that most of the expenses are made for your company since It is a prize.
Firstly, I would like to know if you have all the Camp facilities to stay in my tent because I love being in contact with nature. Then, I would prefer travelling in July because here in New York is summer time so I am very busy with my language teaching job I have till the end of this month.
I have great experience dealing with young people in certain activities such as singing and swimming. I have also taken piano lessons together with singing classes but the activity I like the most is swimming because It is very relaxing for me to swim in pools, lakes, rivers and so on.
I need you to tell me what the weather conditions are to bring some appropriate clothes and How much money I am going to earn working there. If you need any further information about me please do not hesitate in asking me.
I am looking forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully,
Katia Carrasco
